Several biotech companies have chosen to establish their headquarters in the canton of Neuchatel, including the US biotech group Celgene. With around 100 employees in 2007, there are now around 800 people on its payroll.
In addition, the Swatch Group is probably the best-known local employer. When the Huguenots were expelled from France, many of them fled to French-speaking Switzerland and brought their knowledge of the early watch industry and automation technology with them.
